I was at my book club meeting when one of the women, “said ask why?” I asked her for more detail. She said always ask why you want, need or desire something.
I thought about my “want” list, and I asked the question why? over and over again, in the attempt to really understand the underlying need. I found it quite interesting.
A similar idea exists in Japan, they use 5 Whys for troubleshooting, quality improvement and problem solving, but it is most effective when used to resolve simple or moderately difficult problems.
My interpretation of the use, is to find out more about my true needs and desires and perhaps the “Why” I have the ones I do, as not everyone wants the same thing or has the same needs. Kind of a scratch your head moment!
